Admonição (pelo Exmo. Reitor do Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Lapa, Rev. Padre Alves de Amorim)

Estamos reunidos espiritualmente neste primeiro e secular Santuário dedicado a Nossa Senhora da Lapa, para pedirmos a sua protecção contra o flagelo da pandemia Covid-19. A todos foi dirigido o convite para se associarem espiritualmente a este acto religioso e penitencial, mas de modo especial aos povos de língua portuguesa e às comunidades onde permanece o culto secular a Nossa Senhora da Lapa, sabendo que, durante mais de 400 anos, antes das Aparições de Fátima, este Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Lapa foi o maior centro de peregrinações em Portugal, cuja devoção se difundiu pelo mundo e ainda se mantém viva em mais de 60 lugares.

Um esclarecimento sobre a oportunidade da consagração

Os Santuários, qualquer que tenha sido a história humana do seu início, todos existem por intervenção divina e todos têm a mesma finalidade a atingir, ou seja, orientar os homens a encontrar-se com o seu Deus que os ama e os quer fazer felizes, e por isso lhes promete, depois desta breve passagem pela Terra, uma outra vida em total e perpétua felicidade, apenas com a condição de aqui seguirem um caminho de perfeição como Ele propõe.

Há porém, santuários que, para além dessa finalidade comum a todos, surgem em épocas e circunstâncias especiais, destinados a transmitir mensagens divinas também especiais em face dessas circunstâncias. E neste contexto, temos dois claros exemplos em Portugal: os santuários da Lapa e de Fátima, nos quais, uma vez mais, se evidencia o carinho e predilecção da Virgem Maria pelos portugueses, que já se vinha notando desde os inícios da nacionalidade.

Ora vejamos:

Quando é que apareceu o Santuário da Lapa? Foi quando, há cinco séculos, os portugueses andavam entusiasmados a descobrir terras para além dos mares.

E qual foi, então, a mensagem a transmitir? Foi dizer aos Portugueses que não bastava ter glória de descobrir novas terras. Era necessário levar também a Fé a essas terras.

E os portugueses entenderam a mensagem. E, tendo conseguido fazer de Portugal um império, com terras no Brasil, na África e na Índia, também fizeram dele um país de missionários, que levaram a Fé cristã a essas terras descobertas.

E quando apareceu o Santuário de Fátima? Foi nos inícios do século XX quando se preparava um cenário de perseguição à Fé. A nossa primeira república apostava em acabar com a fé no mundo.

Foi então que a Virgem Maria se manifestou em Fátima, com especial impacto, para que a mensagem que Ela vinha trazer se difundisse por todo o mundo.

Conclusão: O Santuário da Lapa foi de início destinado para difundir a Fé; o Santuário de Fátima para defender a Fé. Ambos radicados neste mesmo país em locais então desertos, com intervenção da mesma Virgem Maria, com especiais mensagens de Fé adaptadas às circunstâncias do momento, com projecção aos vários continentes, com envolvimento de crianças pastorinhas. E agora com um sinal permanente a testemunhar essa ligação e sequência, pois, a primeira imagem de Nossa Senhora de Fátima, que hoje se venera, foi feita tendo por modelo uma imagem de Nossa Senhora da Lapa. Isto ficou referido no jornal “Voz de Fátima” de 13 de Maio de 2004.

E termino lembrando um caso ao mesmo tempo simples e misterioso:

Há cerca de cem anos, houve também uma terrível epidemia, dita “pneumónica”, que fez morrer os dois pastorinhos, Francisco e Jacinta. Eles tinham pedido a Nossa Senhora que os levasse para o Céu, e Ela, sem lhes explicar como, prometeu-lhes que os viria buscar em breve. E assim aconteceu, depois dos sofrimentos que suportaram com a maior resignação, pela conversão dos pecadores.

Agora, nós pecadores, assediados pela tenebrosa pandemia Covid-19 vamos, espiritualmente unidos, prostrar-nos em Oração e Consagração a Nossa Senhora da Lapa.

 

CONSAGRAÇÃO

Se foi por Vós, Virgem Santíssima, que Jesus Cristo, Senhor nosso, veio ao mundo, é também por Vós que nele deve reinar.

Ó Rainha e Senhora da Lapa, Vós que sois a obra-prima e filha dilectíssima do Altíssimo, a Mãe Admirável de Deus Filho, a Esposa fiel do Espírito Santo, santuário e repouso da Santíssima Trindade, escutai e prece ardente que hoje, contritos, Vos dirigimos:
Todos sabemos que a Terra está cheia de vossa glória. Incontáveis são os altares em vossa honra; Muitas nações, dioceses e cidades Vos tomam por Padroeira; Inúmeras as catedrais, basílicas e igrejas consagradas a Deus sob o Vosso santo patrocínio e sem fim as Ordens, Congregações, Institutos e Confrarias a Vós dedicadas.
Aqui, neste pequeno recanto de Portugal, ergue-se o mais antigo santuário a Vós dedicado sob a invocação de Nossa Senhora da Lapa, onde sois venerada, há mais de cinco séculos, por grandes e pequenos, ricos e pobres, sábios e ignorantes, irmanados por todos por uma mesma Fé.
Sabendo-nos embora réus da excelsa justiça de Deus e quão merecidos são os castigos que sobre o mundo ingrato e impenitente se possam abater; sabendo também como no passado a mão dos Santos Anjos os executou, varrendo à espada a Terra para bem das almas, mas sabendo-nos outrossim Vossos filhos, Vos pedimos, Mãe poderosíssima, nos deis enfim um coração e vida penitentes. Possa o Vosso Imaculado Coração, Mãe Santíssima, apiedar-se dos nossos corações aflitos e inspirar-lhes a penitência que almejamos.
Assim, como Reitor deste Santuário, e unido aos outros santuários espalhados pelos países de língua portuguesa, a vós hoje nos dirigimos para consagrar os nossos povos e Vos pedimos que deles afasteis a actual pandemia que varre a Terra. Assim, ó Senhora da Lapa, Vos imploramos:

1. Que pela nossa fé e instante súplica, com os raios imperiosos da Vossa cândida luz, afasteis, Rainha nossa, dos nossos povos esta tenebrosa pandemia que a todos ameaça:
2. Que o exemplo das Vossas virtudes destrua os vícios e substitua os nossos pecados
3. Que o exemplo da Vossa perfeita humildade tome o lugar da soberba humana;
4. Que o incêndio da caridade do Vosso Imaculado Coração apague as nossas debilidades;
5. Que os Vossos excelsos méritos, sempre propícios junto do trono do Altíssimo, d’Eles obtenham o fim deste flagelo;
6. Que sejais a rainha daqueles que vivem obscurecidos pelo erro, conduzindo-os pelo dogma da Fé e pela tradição da Santa Igreja Católica, única via de salvação, a contemplarem um dia a sede de toda a verdade, Jesus Cristo Nosso Senhor;
7. Que intercedais junto do Vosso Filho pela liberdade e exaltação da Santa Igreja e obtenhais para todas as nações tranquilidade e ordem, em tudo submetidas enfim à beleza e alegria da Fé em Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo Ressuscitado;
8. Que tenhais compaixão de todos os que estão a padecer com esta pandemia, dando-lhes conforto no sofrimento e obtendo-lhes a cura, e que intercedais por aqueles que até este momento já partiram, para que considerada suficiente a sua purificação pelo sofrimento, sejam de imediato admitidos na paz eterna do Senhor, nós que vos temos por Mãe e advogada junto do trono celestial e do Soberano Juiz;
9. Que intercedais por todos quanto abnegadamente se têm sacrificado a cuidar dos doentes infectados, alguns até ao sacrifício da própria vida, para que recebam do Senhor justa compensação com abundância de graças temporais e espirituais.
10. Que lanceis enfim o Vosso manto protector, afastando de nós todas as gravosas penúrias sociais e materiais, resultantes da terrível pandemia.

Dulcíssimo Jesus, Redentor do género humano, tudo isto Vos pedimos por intercessão da Senhora da Lapa, a Quem hoje nos consagramos, e que finalmente a todos nos deis a eterna salvação. Ámen

CONSECRATION TO OUR LADY OF LAPA
DUE TO COVID-19

Clarification

We are spiritually gathered in this first and secular Sanctuary dedicated to Our Lady of Lapa, to ask for her protection against the scourge of the Covid-19 pandemic. The invitation was made to everyone in order to spiritually associate themselves with this religious and penitential act, but especially to the Portuguese-speaking people and the communities in which the secular cult to Our Lady of Lapa remains, knowing that, for more than 400 years, before the Fátima Apparitions, this Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lapa was the largest pilgrimage centre in Portugal, whose devotion spread throughout the world and is still alive in over 60 locations.

A clarification on the opportunity for consecration

The Sanctuaries, whatever the human history of their beginning may have been, all exist through divine intervention and all have the same intended purpose, namely, to guide men to find their God who loves them and wants to make them happy and that is why he promises them, after this brief passage on Earth, another life in total and perpetual happiness, with the sole condition that they follow a path of perfection here as He proposes.

However, there are sanctuaries that, in addition to this common purpose, arise in special times and circumstances, designed to convey divine messages that are also special in view of these circumstances. And in this context, we have two clear examples in Portugal: the sanctuaries of Lapa and Fátima, in which, once again, the affection and predilection of the Virgin Mary for the Portuguese is evident, and which has been noted since the beginning of our nation’s history.

Now let’s see:

When did the Lapa Sanctuary appear? It was when, five centuries ago, the Portuguese were excited discovering new lands beyond the seas.

And, at that time, what was the message to be conveyed? It was to tell the Portuguese that the glory of discovering new lands would not suffice. It was also necessary to take faith to these lands.

And the Portuguese understood the message. And, having managed to turn Portugal into an empire, with lands in Brazil, Africa and India, they also made it a country of missionaries, who took the Christian Faith to these discovered lands.

And when did the Fátima Sanctuary appear? It was at the beginning of the 20th century when a scenario of persecution of the Faith was being prepared. Our first republic was committed to ending faith in the world.

It was then that the Virgin Mary manifested herself in Fátima, with a special impact, so that the message that she came to disseminate would be spread throughout the world.

Conclusion: The Lapa Sanctuary was initially intended to spread the Faith; the Fátima Sanctuary to defend the Faith. Both based in this same country in places that were then deserted, with the intervention of the same Virgin Mary, with special messages of Faith adapted to the circumstances of the moment, with a projection to the various continents, with the involvement of pastoral children. And now with a permanent sign to bear witness to this connection and sequence, for the first image of Our Lady of Fátima venerated today, was made in the image of Our Lady of Lapa. This was mentioned in the edition of May 13th, 2004 of the “Voz de Fátima” newspaper.

And I end by recalling a case that is simultaneously simple and mysterious:

About a hundred years ago, there was also a terrible epidemic, known as the “pneumonic plague”, which killed two of the three little shepherd children, Francisco and Jacinta. They had asked Our Lady to take them to Heaven, and without explaining how, She promised to come and get them soon. And so it happened, after the sufferings they endured with the greatest resignation, for the conversion of sinners.

Now, we sinners, besieged by the terrible Covid-19 pandemic will, spiritually united, fall to our knees in Prayer and Consecration to Our Lady of Lapa.

 

CONSECRATION

If it was due to You, our most Holy Virgin, that Jesus Christ our Lord came into the world, it is also for You that He must reign in it.

O Queen and Lady of Lapa, You who are the masterpiece and most beloved daughter of the Lord God Most High, the Admirable Mother of God the Son, the faithful Spouse of the Holy Spirit, sanctuary and resting place of the most Holy Trinity, listen to the ardent prayer that today, we penitents, direct to You:

We all know that Earth is filled with Your glory. Countless are the altars in your honour; Many nations, dioceses and cities take You as their Patron; Numerous cathedrals, basilicas and churches consecrated to God under Your holy patronage as well as endless Orders, Congregations, Institutes and Confraternities dedicated to You.

Here, in this small corner of Portugal, stands the oldest sanctuary dedicated to You under the invocation of Our Lady of Lapa, where you have been venerated, for over five centuries, by large and small, rich and poor, wise and ignorant, all united in the same Faith.

Knowing that we are offenders in the face of God’s supreme justice and how well-deserved are the punishments that may befall the ungrateful and unrepentant world; knowing also how, in the past, the hand of the Holy Angels executed them, sweeping the earth by sword for the sake of its souls, but likewise also knowing we are Your children, we ask of You, our most powerful Mother, to finally give us a penitent heart and life. May your Immaculate Heart, most Holy Mother, have mercy on our afflicted hearts and inspire them with the penance we long for.

Therefore, as Rector of this Sanctuary, and united with the other sanctuaries spread throughout the Portuguese-speaking countries, today we address you to consecrate our people and we ask that You protect them from the current pandemic that sweeps the Earth. Thus, O Lady of Lapa, we implore You:

1. That per our faith and instant supplication, with the imperious rays of Your candid light, you, our Queen, protect our people from this dark pandemic that threatens us all;
2. May the example of Your virtues destroy addictions and replace our sins;
3. May the example of Your perfect humility take the place of human arrogance;
4. May the fire of your Immaculate Heart’s charity put an end to our weaknesses;
5. May Your sublime merits, always favourable by the throne of the Lord God Most High, obtain from them the end of this scourge;
6. May you be the queen of those who are obscured by error, leading them by the dogma of Faith and the tradition of the Holy Catholic Church, the only way to salvation, to someday contemplate the thirst of all truth, Jesus Christ Our Lord;
7. May you intercede with Your Son for the freedom and exaltation of the Holy Church and obtain tranquility and order for all nations, in all things finally submitted to the beauty and joy of Faith in Our Risen Lord Jesus Christ;
8. May you have compassion for all those who are suffering from this pandemic, giving them comfort in their suffering and obtaining a cure for them, and may you also intercede by those who have already departed this world, so that their purification by suffering may be sufficient, may they be immediately admitted to the eternal peace of the Lord, we who have You as a Mother and advocate at the heavenly throne and the Sovereign Judge;
9. May you intercede for all who have selflessly sacrificed themselves to care for the infected, some even to the extent of sacrificing their own lives, so that they may receive from the Lord just compensation with an abundance of temporal and spiritual graces.
10. May you finally cast Your protective mantle, protecting us from all the burdensome social and material penuries, resulting from the terrible pandemic.

Most Sweet Jesus, Redeemer of mankind, all of this we ask of You by intercession of Our Lady of Lapa, to whom we consecrate ourselves today, and may you finally give us all eternal salvation. Amen
